Sonoma County Syrah 2014
Our second bottling of syrah offers dark, deep, profound aromas and flavors of pepper, spice and clove. This uncharacteristically dark, inky Harvest Moon red is nice now with decanting however will cellar for years and years to come.
Harvested on time, James and his father brought the approximately 1.5 tons of perfect conditioned clusters to the crushpad in late morning. In 2014, we crushed and destemmed the grapes into a 2 ton tank and co-fermented the syrah with 20% RRV Petit Syrah. We actively managed the fermentation for 13 days, punching down the must until dry. The must was then pressed off the skins at 1.5 bars (lighter pressure) and was pumped to mostly old, neutral barrels where they sat for 20 months. The wine was racked clean to tank and bottled unfiltered in August 2016.
