Tasting Notes

Our 2006 Estate Zin showcases classic Pitts Home Ranch flavors. The lineage continues with bright juicy red berry fruit, that generously fills the mouth while the finish explodes full of red, spiced fruit all wrapped around a mouthwatering, juicy backbone. This wine continues to please the senses long after the finish. This elegant-style Zin is welcome at any dinner table. Drink now through 2016. We feel this single-vineyard Zin exemplifies classic, fruit driven wine from the russian River Valley. This elegant Zin demonstrates balance in a wine world full of huge, muscle-bound SUV's.

Winemaker Notes

Over the course of the 2006 growing season, approximately 45% of the Zinfandel fruit grown on the Estate was thinned (dropped to the ground in early August) in order to produce the aromatic intensity that lies inside. Harvest Moon employs an extensive canopy management program with the trellised five-acre Zin block. This program includes spring suckering, leaf pulling, cane positioning, fruit thinning, and bull caning. Deficit-irrigation was also employed, in which the vines received just the amount of water such that the vine didn't begin to shut down. A wise man once said, "Stressed vines create complex wines." This 100% Estate Zin barreled for a full 20 months in mostly neutral oak barrels.
