NV Estate Dry Gewürztraminer
Grapefruit zest with floral bouquet. Orange crème soda and lemon zest finish.
Cream of orange soda aromas burst out of the glass at first pour. Warmed orange peel and other citrus notes follow. Due to skin contact, there's some noticeable structure on the mid, slightly gripping and slowly releasing into a mouthwatering experience. Although this wine was fermented dry, it has a great mouthfeel and fruit expression. Skin contact Gewurtz was a fun and innovative approach to our 12th vintage.
This fruit comes from a 39-year-old vineyard off our Russian River Valley Home Ranch. We decided to mix things up a bit in 2014 and cold-soaked the Gewurtz grapes on the skins for three days, pumping over daily for skin extraction. The result is an "orange"wine. Unlike traditional Gewurtztraminers, this wine was fermented to a bone-dry level and was introduced to malolactic bacteria and a few weeks of new French oak, lending the light-bodied wine a creamy mouth feel, yet preserving the refreshingly dry crisp flavors. We aded 12% sparkling vase from 2013 to firm up the acids.
