Futures - Pitts Home Ranch Estate Zinfandel 2018

My buddy Nate and I are now tasting barrel to barrel each Spring and scrutinizing the Estate zin lots even more than before in order to offer smaller lots yet the most intense expression of the Estate Zin that most of you are familiar with. This is truly a unique vineyard, planted on the right rootstock and trellised with thoughtful intent. The crest of the soil, the cool, foggy location, the farming practices and gentle, non-interventionist winemaking approach bring together the love and intensity the contents of these barrels contain. Lots of words yet appropriate.

Tasting Notes

One of my favorite Zins I’ve made in years. Although the overt, upfront black pepper plays a more supporting role in 2018 barrels, the gorgeous red-candied fruit developing is ver exciting. The color is stabilizing into an electric hue.

With higher sugars at harvest, the body is more substantial than vintages prior and acids are a bit more integrated earlier. There’s still a zesty, juicy, mouth-watering character lingering on the finish.
